Several months ago, a radish won the hearts of the citizens of Aioi Japan. The large, white daikon radish managed to grow straight up through a layer of asphalt, earning itself the nickname “gutsy radish” from Aioi residents. Its fans were recently moved to tears, however, when an unknown assailant lopped the top off the plucky white root and fled. According to a town official, the radish top was found near the scene of the crime and is currently convalescing in a water bath in hopes that it will live on. Daikon...die hard
