Blueberry and Cranberry Sauce

blueberry sauceSomeone just emailed me a recipe for Blueberry and Cranberry Sauce - sounds good. They recommend serving with duck as well as the usual turkey. Blueberries AND Cranberries - can't get more American than that in my book!

Blueberry and Cranberry Sauce

  • 7oz cranberries
  • 5 1/2 oz blueberries
  • 3 1/2 oz golden caster sugar
  • Grated zest and juice of one lemon
  • 8 crushed juniper berries
  • 5 tbsp port

Like my 'straight' cranberry sauce recipe it is simplicity to make - combine all in a saucepan and simmer until the fruit and softened. The image is taken from the Joy of Baking; who have a great blueberry only sauce recipe (but for use with ice-cream or in pies).

Despite being tasty, I wanted to remind you that blackberries and cranberries are healthy, too. I'm not a medical doctor, but their health aspects have been well discussed in the press. A nice side benefit.
