A few days ago, our sibling blog TV Squad reported that Kitchen Confidential, the sitcom version of the popular Tony Bourdain book, got the ax. Meanwhile, as Snack mentions, the Travel Channel show, No Reservations starring the real Bourdain is wrapping up a second season of filming and working on a third. Having seen both it makes perfect sense. What was missing from the Kitchen Confidential TV show was the Tony. The lead character didn't have the cranky-yet-loveable appeal of Bourdain as the bad boy who can break your heart and cook you a meal. On Kitchen Confidential the restaurant and the food were just set dressing for the typical sitcom plots whereas on Tony's shows and in his book, the food sits at center stage. Fake Tony=Bad, Real Tony=Good

He is New York for sure.
Myself, I find his attitude a nice change of pace from some of the more campy chef's on T.V., like Emeril and his three jokes.
I like "No Reservations" but being the travel channel, I feel that they've put less of an emphasis on food... which is okay, but I miss the original "A Cooks Tour" which I have recorded both seasons. Oh and my theory is that Emeril has hired people that threaten the audience into laughing at his stupid jokes.
Thank goodness that No Reservations will live on and that Kitchen Confidential will go away. I was afraid their was no justice in the world!
On a serious note, I was Les Halles this weekend and everything was fantastic! If you can get there soon they have a few special menus this month: http://www.leshalles.net/news.php
