State seeks to ban Bad Elf beers

bad elfState officials in Connecticut are trying to ban Ridgeway Brewery’s Seriously Bad Elf ale for fear that the mischievous little creature on the label might inspire kids to drink.

State law prohibits alcohol advertisements with images that children might find appealing.

Dan Shelton of Massachusetts-based Shelton Brothers, an importer of Seriously Bad Elf feels the proposed ban is unfair. Shelton said he had no problem in earlier years selling Bad Elf and Very Bad Elf, as well as another brew called Santa’s Butt.

"They didn't notice Santa's Butt, but they notice this one. How can you miss that big red thing?” Shelton said in a recent AP article.
