Woman are better off mixing a gin and tonic than meddling with modern cuisines - so says Gordon Ramsey.
Yep girls, you apparently 'can't cook to save your lives'. Reaction expected along the lines at the BBC where Hazel probably sums it up with her reaction
"Ridiculous! I'm one of the best cooks I know! With absolutely no training or qualifications! The only time I can't cook is when I'm using ready made meals! I just wish I had more time and money to cook exactly what I want, everytime I want to make it."
In an interview with the Radio Times for his new TV show he states that "I've been visiting ladies' houses up and down the country with our film crew and you would be amazed how little cooking the girls are doing."
"When they eat, they cheat - it is ready meals and pre-prepared meals all the way," the celebrity chef said.
"Seriously, there are huge numbers of young women out there who know how to mix cocktails but can't cook to save their lives, whereas men are finding their way into the kitchen in ever growing numbers."
Reaction in New Zealand is equally critical where a female pastry chef says "I've worked in quite a few commercial kitchens with other women. They're brilliant chefs."

You mean to say that Gordon Ramsey is an egotistical misogynist prick?

I don't know about other countries, but every man friend of mine cooks rather decently, whereas my girlfriends could't boil an egg. [There are the one or two exceptions which confirm the rule, obviously.]
Anyway, Ramsey is talking about home cooking, not comercial cooking, it seems. So any woman chefs don't enter into it.

Nothing like a little controversy when you've got a new show to promote, eh?
The line at the top of this entry isn't a quote - it's an interpretation; and IMO a poor one. Isn't Ramsay just commenting on a trend he noticed in home cooking while filming his show?
In fact, the actual quotes from the interview confirm that: ""I've been visiting ladies' houses up and down the country with our film crew and you would be amazed how little cooking the girls are doing. Trust me, I am only telling you what I have discovered."
"[The comments] were based on a survey for a TV programme which claimed 75% of women asked admitted they could not cook."
Whether he's right or not, he certainly never says that female cooks are "better off" not "meddling with modern cuisine." Shame on you! :)

If so, then I happily and humbly retract the word "misogynist" from my first comment.

It's not that women "can't" cook but women today "don't" cook. I know more guys who can cook than women. I don't know why the young generation of girls doesn't want to learn

This is no shock to me. Women like myself simply have no time to cook from scratch! We have 2 full-time jobs--one outside the home, and the other inside the home. When I get home from work, I have to take care of my 2 year-old son and make sure he is fed, do laundry, clean the house, open mail, pay bills, g t the grocery store etc. Rarely do I have a moment to relax with a cup of tea before bed, let alone prepare a huge meal from scratch. In my opinion, many men are stepping into the kitchen beacuse women just don't have the time to do it any longer! Why shouldn't men be cooking!?!

After taking some classes in Sociology I'm aware that Women now a days don't cook like they used to. They also don't have all day to stand around the kitchen in poodle skirts either. I think that this guy needs to cut women some slack, as it is we work an average of 40 hours a week and statistically still take on most of the household chores. Now it's all well and good that Gordon can be Mr. Mom and all, but women today just don't have time for all of that. Maybe he should focus his energy going to thier house and cooking a dinner for them after they've been at work all day or maybe teach the husbands a thing or two in the kitchen, maybe something that doesn't involve grilling.

Who really cares anyhow.
To me, it only means that the ones who are doing the cooking care about what they are eating (for health, flavor or both). Those who dont either dont have time (as stated above) or simply dont care.
I had a female roommate who would never cook and actually thought of eating as an annoying chore mainly because she always ate terrible foods (ie: frozen/fast foods). She scoffed at me when I had "raw" tortillias. Then I had her try one. She retracted her scoffing. Despite that, she never picked up a fry pan. Not because she was female but simply because she DIDNT CARE for the foods she ate. I know plenty of guys who are the same way.
Havent we matured enough to get past the boys vs. girls type of thinking yet?

First, I would argue that one needs to distinguish between chefs and serious amateurs cooking for the love of food and cooks who are making meals to feed themselves (and their families). Gordon Ramsey seems to be making a statement about the latter type of cook, not the 'chef' variety.
About this, well, I think everyone has already summed it up nicely. My two cents are that if some one (and I really don't care about the gender) claims to be a better cook than me and, thus, insists on doing all the cooking for my daily meals ... I respond YAHOOOOO! (more time for reading cooking blogs and planning gourmet meals)
