Recognize the creepy guy shown above? It's the one and only Vincent Price rendered in pumpkin form. How did I do that? I have an ace in the hole, I live with an artist. The way he makes our pumpkin each year is that we find a photo we want to use as the face (last year we used Marilyn Manson) and he uses a photo editing program to high contrast the photo. The photo is drawn on the pumpkin and then he uses a linoleum cutter to carve away the parts that showed up white in the high contrast. The method I used to use in the days when I was solo was this one from Martha Stewart that involves stringing a strand of Christmas lights through a pumpkin. I used to call it the pumpkin disco ball. It's great for parties but if you aren't careful your lights end up seriously gunked up.
