Kimchi may cure bird flu

kimchi Can kimchi cure bird flu? With concerns about a bird flu pandemic around people are paying attention to a study from scientists at Seoul National University which used kimchi to treat chickens infected with avian flu. The powerful ingredient is the Lactobacillus bacteria (which is also present in sauerkraut). The bacteria may be the critical element in preventing Avian Flu. Both Kimchi and traditional Sauerkraut are made by fermenting sliced cabbage which has a high high level of lactic acid. Kimchi has long enjoyed a reputation as being a cold cure and generally good for what ails you. Like sauerkraut, it's definitely a like-it-or-loathe-it food and falls into the acquired taste category but it might not be a bad idea to have some in the house this winter just in case.
