Brooke Gladstone of NPR’s On the Media recently spoke with author/journalist Frederick Kaufman about his recent Harper’s article on pornography, food porn and the Food Network.Kaufman consulted with a veteran porn photographer to deconstruct the tactics he feels the Food Network uses to entice and arouse viewers. He points out how camera angles, repetitive and gratuitous shots and specific sounds all contribute to the fetishization of food on television.
Much time is spent on Giada and Rachel and Tyler, as well as on drawing parallels between shooting a food program and shooting an oral sex scene.
