Yesterday, October 5th, we let you know that hundreds of restaurants around the country were participating in Dine for America, a one day event to raise funds for the Hurrican Katrina relief effort. The participation level from local LA restaurants was fairly low from what I could tell, but we still made it out to Border Grill in Santa Monica. Border Grill donated the profit from every order of guacamole, and matched the amount as well.Normally, I use every ounce of will power in my body to resist the temptation to scoop guacamole by the chipful and shovel it into my mouth. It’s just so naughty, that avocado. Border Grill serves guacamole alongside their black bean dip - the guacamole was deliciously fresh and chunky, and the black bean dip was interestingly dark and creamy. We attacked the bowl with utter, guilt-free abandon, and since it was disaster relief, we didn't mind the $7.50 price tag.
