Table of Condiments

miracle whip Wondering how many more weeks that jar of Miracle Whip will last in your fridge? How about that onion dip?

Well, wonder no longer, or at least lull yourself into a false sense of security by consulting the Table of Condiments That Periodically Go Bad.

Organized to look like the periodic table of elements, this chart gives rough estimates of the shelf lives of 75 common toppings and sauces.

The page’s host is very clear in noting that none of the information may be accurate. Miracle Whip will last three months, it says. Cz, or Cheese Wiz, has no date range at all.

Probably still best to rely on the old sniff-check, but this is good for a laugh.

If I buy a bag of marshmallows in the store it will probably last longer then the marshmallows I get over the summer from a large distributor. Which last about 25 weeks before going stale. I've ate the cheap marshmallows up to 2.5 years after they were bought. Well technically it was drinking because the only thing they were good for was hot chocolate.

The other variable is storage. Refrigerated foods that stay at a constant temperature will have a longer life span then items that warm and then rechill. This is why food in company break room fridges tend to go bad before the same item will in a private residence. The constant opening of the door fluctuates the temperature. With dry goods you have to watch humidity.

Hopefully everyone who visits that page reads the disclaimers and remembers that it came out of a daily planner...
