Slashfood Pizza Day - later, but better

We decided we needed a little extra time to ratchet Pizza Day up to the appropriate level of madness. Slashfood Pizza Day will now occur on Monday, September 26. We've got some really cool stuff planned: recipes for all kinds of pies, from French to Korean to Vegan; a frozen pizza taste test; an interview with a guy who went on an all pizza diet for 3.5 months – and lost weight; and much, much more.

Our readers were a big part of why Grilled Cheese Day was an unqualified success, and so, once again, we want you to get involved. To that end, we're raising the stakes just a little bit: we're giving out $25 Amazon gift certificates to the best pizza submissions in three categories: Most Creative Pizza, Most Bizzare, and the overall best-of, the Editor's Choice. So post your pizza creations on your own blog (if you don't have one yet, it's probably time to give Blogger a shot), and leave us a link in the comments on this post. We'll be showcasing the best entries throughout the next week in the lead up to the big day. Have fun, be creative, and we'll see you at our pizza party!

We love pizza and have eaten it for an entire week or two at a time while I develop our favorite. Here it is: 1 pkg active dry yeast, 1 1/4 c warm water (allow these two to stand for 5 minutes). Mix 1/4 c packed brown sugar and 2 (of 3 total cups) cups of all purpose flour in a large bowl. Mix. Add yeast mixture and stir until you have a soft mixture. Turn onto a well-floured surface and knead for about 3 minutes, adding additional 1 cup flour as needed. Cover and let rest for 20 minutes on a PAM sprayed wax paper. Spread dough out with hands into a circle and place in a dish (or brush on) mixture of 1/2 c warm water and 1 tablespoon of baking soda. Dab dry with paper towel. Put in 450 degree oven for about 6 minutes or until golden brown. Add toppings. Return to oven for about 10 more minutes. ENJOY!!!

What I want to know is when the rousing debate over stones v. screens v. aluminum pan v. grills start?

Pizza from the Pizza Hut in Oxford, England is pretty bad as well.

F.L.S. or Finished is fine. Although I would think that Finished is easier to type.

Okay, I'm cheating by using flatbread instead of making my own dough, but here's a quick and simple pizza recipe: http://cookingforone-or-two.blogspot.com/2005/09/coupon-clipping-for-food-items-and.html

And the reason I don't bother making my own pizzas from scratch: mine'll never be as good as my mother's hotdog pizzas that she'd make us when my brother and I were kids. She just substituted pepperoni slices with chunks of hotdog, which just increased the texture so much. And she always sauteed the mushrooms first, before putting them on the pizzas. You've never tasted mushrooms on pizza right until you've tried it this way. Guilty food, sure. Tasty, absolutely. Don't forget the oregano.
