Grilled Cheese sandwiches aren't just about Kraft slices and Wonder Bread anymore, and this coming Monday, Slashfood is going to devote the entire day to proving it. Monday, August 29 is Grilled Cheese Day on Slashfood. Nothing but grilled cheese posts, all day long. We'll talk to special guests, share recipes and preparation tips for non-traditional and international interpretations, look into grilled cheese gadgetry, and even report from the scene of a competitive grilled cheese eating event. Can't wait until Monday? Put your grilled cheese photos where we can see 'em – tag them with "grilledcheese" and "slashfood" on Flickr, and we'll link to our favorites in a special installment of Food Porn. We want to do a theme day every Monday, so if you have ideas for next week's installment, let us know in the comments on this post. Monday is Grilled Cheese Day on Slashfood

I'm quite fond of the George Foreman Grill as a grilled cheese sammich gadget. Mexican Grilled Cheese: Take a bolillo roll, some monterey jack, sliced tomato, and sliced avocado. Grill it and enjoy. :) Sounds like I should make one and take pictures.

Yeah, but can your George Foreman grill make a miracle? See the following link if you're wondering ;-)

My family lived in Cairo, Egypt when I was 10. Every Saturday, we went to the Khan el Khalili, went shopping, and then came home. I'd ritualistically set out the butter (so it'd be soft) prior to heading to the Khan. Then, upon our return, I'd slather on the softened butter and make a grilled cheese. After the sandwich, I'd eat 2 -- no more, because I had only one, 3-pound bag to last an entire year! -- for dessert. Saturdays were special days for me, as you can see. And grilled cheese sandwiches, consequently, will always hold a special place in my heart.
However, some might consider me to be a bit, um, weird.
Anyway, I think you should do an ice cream sundae theme day, next week. And the following week? Chocolate chip cookies. See you then!

While grilled cheese is fun, I still have fond memories of PB & *, where * could be anything from jelly, to honey, to some other stuff that seems kind of wierd now. That might fit in with a back to school theme as well.
Other ideas for future Mondays: eggs, burgers (and not just beef), fish, chocolate, ... The ideas are endless, now I have to think about lunch.

I can't wait to see what everyone comes up with. I think I'll do a couple of versions and exclude my five year old neice's favorite (processed cheddar on white sliced-yuck)

I also use my George Foreman Grill for grilled cheese sandwiches. Quick and easy with not much cleanup. I'll try that recipe you posted, random, it sounds good. I have not had a grilled cheese sandwich in a long time, so I'll probably make one on monday.

Cast Iron is really the way to go in grilled cheese making. I usually just make a plain-jane grilled cheese of cheddar and wheat bread. Grilled with either olive oil or real butter on a cast iron griddle.

My secret to making a grilled cheese is putting butter on both sides and then sprinkleing each side with a little sugar. So it kinda carmelizes when you cook it! Yum yum in my tum tum.

I always make my grilled cheese with jam. It is sooo revolutionary. I put some photos of my grilled cheese bagel on Flickr. We were out of bread.

Thought I'd try to post my submission here too. I made a variety of fillings since I think grilled cheese should just be considered a food group all by itself.

Excellent. I love me a good grilled cheese, and Slashfood has come to the rescue with a day full of this wonderful, easy-to-make food that helped me through my college years (ramen noodles just didn't do it for me).
As for ideas on future themed days, how about a "On a Stick" day. Food, on a stick. That's what I'm talking about. Kabobs, corndogs, you name it. As long as it comes on a stick, because we all know that food tastes better when it comes attached to a piece of wood.

Okay, I made a yummy grilled cheese sandwich that I'm pretty sure no one else in the world made. I put the post on my blog just now: glutenfreegirl.blogspot.com
(I've also tagged the photo on Flickr, but I don't really know how to use tags, so I might have done it wrong. If anyone wants to see the photos, go to: flickr.com/photos/shaunaforce/
Thanks for doing this--I'm never going to forget that sandwich!

Excellent idea! Actually reminded me about Toastabags (a teflon bag which you stick in the toaster) (http://www.firebox.com/index.html?dir=firebox&action=product&pid=28) and the greatest of all cheese toppings: Henderson Relish (http://www.hendersonsrelish.com/content/relish.htm).
