Purely Organic Sicilian Marzipan

sicilian marzipanErich's post on Lindt 85% and Nutella inspired me. I'm not a fan of Nutella for some reason but another product that I am completely in love with combined with dark chocolate marzipan. Blame it on my German heritage but I could eat chocolate and marzipan all the time. Unfortunately here in Southern California, the Niederegger supply seems to dry up sometime after Christmas. I can usually find Odense marzipan most places but it's a little too sugary for my tastes. This week, I discovered organic marzipan from Sicily. Goodbye summer diet. This marzipan made from Palma Girgenti and Mandorla Cuore almonds is heavenly when combined with the Lindt 85% and also amazing on its own. It's got just the right amount of almond without the bitter taste that can sometimes occur. And it's organic (yes!). I went to the distributor's website and found out that there is a whole collection of deliciously organic imports from Italy on their site. Tempting items include organic balsamic vinegar, olive oils, honeys and pistachio cream. I'm not daring enough to try the recipe on the package that involves whipping the marzipan in a blender with water but straight out of the package this stuff is totally addictive.

You may want to try See's Candies' honey marzipan chocolates. They are quite good, and relatively inexpensive.
