Wedding Cake Trends

Here's one for all the potential brides and grooms. Cake Fun has a list of the Ins and Outs of wedding cakes. What's in? Chocolate wedding cakes, bold colors, less decoration and exotic natural flowers. Stacked cakes are preferred over pillars and fountains have been replaced by bowls of beta fish or flower-filled vases. What's out? Basically everything in the picture here, pillared cakes, fountains, stairs, plastic decorations and tulle bases. Also out, the bride and groom on the top of the cake and maybe even the cake at all; cupcakes and even pies or other desserts are also being seen. As a former cake decorator I'm always in favor of edible decorations and cakes that put the priority on freshness. Of course, it would be a shame if ornate decorations went completely out of fashion. I was a bit saddened to see that white-on-white cakes are out, my favorite wedding cakes are chocolate on the inside with white-on-white decorations on the outside.
